ARCHIVE
The Heritage Foundation’s Archive has existed since 2002 and is in the Heritage Centre on the site of the Voortrekker Monument. It is accessible to researchers and offers valuable resources on various facets of South African history and cultural history. The theme of the collection focuses on the preservation of the history of the Great Trek, Blood River, Anglo-Boer War, the Voortrekker Monument and the cultural history of Afrikaners during the 20th and 21st centuries.
The archive consists of a unique collection of documents and serves primarily as the corporate memory of the Voortrekker Monument, Heritage Foundation and FAK (Federation of Afrikaans Cultural Associations). It is the official repository of these organisations’ historically important records created and received in their daily tasks and includes correspondence, reports, meetings, financial, property and legal documents. A photo and audiovisual collection, and architectural plans of the Voortrekker Monument and site also form part of this.
The Heritage Foundation’s Archive also contains archives of Afrikaans cultural organisations, such as the Afrikaner Broederbond and Mynwerkersunie (Mine Worker Union), as well as personal collections of people or organisations that have contributed to the cultural and historical aspects of Afrikaans-speaking society.
The archive is open from Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 15:00.
