Eben Meets, our structural conservation specialist visited the historical O’Neill’s Cottage to repair the back door. The door had warped slightly due to the dry air. The local caretaker tried to fix the door but unfortunately did more harm than good. The door was removed, sanded and varnished to protect it against the elements. We will attend to the cemetery, which is overrun by self-sown Australian wattle saplings, during the next visit. The saplings have to be removed and this will only be possible after the first summer rains. Other maintenance work will also be done during this visit.
