Bloemfontein, 9 November 2012: A follow-up meeting took place in Bloemfontein between representatives of the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) and the Erfenisstigting (“The Heritage Foundation”) to provide feedback on specific actions taken by both parties subsequent to their earlier meeting in Pretoria on 21 September 2012. The meeting again took place in an amicable and constructive spirit and the parties agreed to meet again early December 2012 to take the matter further.
The major topics of the meeting of 8 November were the road ahead for the Nasionale Afrikaanse Letterkunde Museum en Navorsingsentrum (NALN), as well as for a number of other, smaller museums involved in Afrikaans heritage conservation in the Free State especially the Winburg Museum and Monument. These matters will now be followed up with other interested and affected parties, at national and local level. It is hoped to be able to reach a satisfactory solution before the end of the present financial year on 31 March 2013.
The parties once again resolved to remain in contact and to be mutually supportive re heritage conservation matters of mutual concern in the Free State.
The delegation of the DSACR was headed by the Head of Department, Adv TH Malakoane, and the delegation of Die Erfenisstigting by its managing director, Major General Gert Opperman.
