MEDIA CONFERENCE

FREEDOM PARK AND DIE ERFENISSTIGTING SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

On 25 April 2014, Freedom Park and Die Erfenisstigting in Pretoria will sign a Memorandum of Understanding, to consolidate and strengthen the friendly ties and reciprocal understanding between the two institutions, and to promote mutual understanding, nation building and reconciliation.

The Memorandum will promote to the greatest possible extent, institutional collaboration that would lead to future cooperation and projects for mutual benefit.  The collaboration brings together historically parallel ideologies and harnesses them under the spirit of nation building, social cohesion and reconciliation.

The parties will undertake to co-operate and collaborate in various areas that include a joint annual ceremony to commemorate all South Africans, black and white, who have paid the highest price during SA Anglo-Boer War, to be presented at the Wall of Names at Freedom Park. The aim is to achieve optimum awareness of the losses suffered and sacrifices made during and as a result of the SA Anglo-Boer War (1899 – 1902).

The parties will also separately and jointly advocate and promote the idea of erecting a suitable memorial for all members of the SA National Defence Force who have lost their lives in service of the country since its inception on 27 April 1994.

Both parties will provide guidelines on the role and responsibility of each, regarding the arranging and marketing of these events to underline the unifying ability of this culturally significant episode in our collective past.
