MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ANNUAL COMMEMORATIVE SERVICE AT THE SADF WALL OF REMEMBRANCE
Pretoria, 30 April 2014. The annual commemorative service and wreath laying ceremony at the SA Defence Force Wall of Remembrance, located on the Voortrekker Monument Heritage Site, will take place at 09:00 for 09:30 on Sunday, 25 May 2014.
The unveiling of the SA Defence Force Memorial, also known as the Troopie Statue, which will be moved from Fort Klapperkop to the Voortrekker Monument Heritage Site, will also take place. A special granite panel will also be unveiled in honour of the families, especially the women and children, of the members of the SA Defence Force who served the country between 1961 and 1994.
Guests are cordially requested to arrive by no later than 09:00 and be seated by no later than 09:30.
Due to the interest in this service and the numbers attending, wreath laying will be restricted to certain dignitaries, next-of-kin of the deceased and one wreath per organization or grouping. Provision will nevertheless be made for the laying of other private wreaths in group context.
You are cordially invited to enjoy refreshments with the rest of the guests after the event.
A route map is available at www.es.org.za. Please move around the Voortrekker Monument in an anti-clockwise direction to the designated parking areas.
The dress for the occasion is as follows: Robes of office or Dress 1.A (military participants). Dress 1.B (military spectators), lounge suit or association dress with orders, decorations and medals (civilians and military veterans). Hats are optional for ladies, but are recommended for protection.
Persons who would like to attend, are cordially requested to send their details through to firstname.lastname@example.org or to send a fax to 086 566 7822 by no later than 15 May 2014.
The annual commemorative service which was held during September at Fort Klapperkop, will henceforth be integrated with abovementioned service at the SADF Wall of Remembrance. No further commemorative services will therefore be held at Fort Klapperkop.
