O’NEILL’S COTTAGE

6.2.d. O'Neills restoration Sept - Nov 2013 At the end of the First War of Independence (February 1881), the initial peace negotiations between the  Transvaal and Britain were conducted at O’Neill’s cottage. This house was declared a national monument  in 1942, but has been abandoned and vandalised in recent years. Since no one else seemed able to  intervene, The Heritage Foundation assumed responsibility for the Cottage for a period of 10 years on  behalf of the owner, Mrs Briscoe. Extensive restoration was done to the house and outbuildings in 2013,  and a display was opened in 2014.
