The Danie Theron Memorial was erected at Gatsrand on Theronskop, at the site where the famous Boer scout met his death during the Anglo-Boer War (1899 – 1902). It was donated to the Heritage Foundation by the Voortrekker Youth-movement in 2003. The HF entered into a management agreement with the nearby Anglo-Gold Ashanti Mine, and the latter accepted responsibility to maintain the road and to clean the site, regularly.
The monument commemorates the heroics of the master scout of the Anglo-Boer War, – Danie (Daniël Johannes Stephanus) Theron. The monument was erected about 50 metres from the place where Theron died on 5 September 1900.
